Our “We The North” series continues this week with an inspiring story from Timmins, where local pied piper Clifford Lamming literally took matters into his own hands and built the community a new squash court. Partnering with Northern College and their athletic complex, the court has spawned incredible activity and momentum by an enthusiastic and passionate group of players.

In three short year, the Timmins Squash Club now has an active league with over 50 players, ran a Squash Ontario NCCP coaching course certifying 5 new coaches, and has a junior program with over 30 participants.  All on 1 squash court – amazing!

Lamming and his team of volunteers have used social media, local community engagement and sheer love of the sport to spur this activity on and are now setting their sights on expanding their horizons.  This past season 12 year old twins Chantal and Nicole Kukulka represented Timmins in their first ever Grand Prix Junior event at the Oakville Club and several senior members attended the Goodfellow Classic in Toronto to test their improving skills.

Clifford has proven that “if you build it they will come” and put Timmins on the map as one of Ontario’s most inspiring squash communities. See below for photos and links to the Timmins Squash Club. Congratulations to Timmins Squash Club – keep up the great work!
