Squash Canada to Launch National Junior Circuit and Junior High Performance Ranking System
Squash Canada is pleased to announce the National Junior Circuit (NJC) and an accompanying Points Table for a new Junior High Performance Ranking System (JHPRS) that will take effect January 1st, 2023. The program will align with US Squash and England Squash to provide a clear and transparent High Performance junior ranking in Canada.
Blyth Academy Online Launches Special Rates for Squash Ontario Members
Blyth Academy Online, one of the leaders in Ontario Secondary School Diploma education of student athletes, is proud to announce the launch of special academic year promotions.
Squash Canada members can undertake the following ministry accredited online interdisciplinary courses at the discounted price of $350 for the 22-23 academic year. This specialized BAO approach aims to truly meet the needs of Canadian student athletes interested in deepening the understanding of their athletic daily life. They are fully accredited and count toward the OSSD, but please note that students can only earn one IDC credit in grade 11 and one in grade 12.
Ontario athletes represent Canada at the WSF World Junior Championship
The 2022 WSF World Junior Championship that were held from August 11-21 in Nancy, France with two main events: the Men’s and Women’s Junior Individual Championship and the Men’s Junior Teams Championship has concluded.
Team Canada consisted of Alex Brown (BC), Ocean Ma (BC), Iman Shaheen (ON), Spring Ma (BC) and Maria Min (BC) for the Junior Women’s and Alex Yuzpe (ON), Karim Michael (QC), Syan Singh (ON), Joseph Toth (BC), Mohamed Kamal (QC) and Jacob Lin (BC) for the Junior Men’s. The players were joined by coaches Jonathan Hill (AB) and Robin Clarke (ON) for their time in France.
Four Inaugural Champions Crowned in Windsor
Non-stop squash delighted the Windsor community at Devonshire Mall from August 15-21 as top Canadian and International players converged on the city to compete in four events on the all-glass Power Court, named deferentially after the sporting and squash legend Jahangir Khan who attended and supported the entire event.
Canadians converge on 2022 WSF World Masters Squash Championship in Wroclaw, Poland
The Canadian Masters Team is gearing up to head to Wroclaw, Poland to compete in the 2022 WSF World Masters Championships starting August 21st through to the 27th. The Hasta La Vista Center in Wroclaw is the host club for the championship and is the largest squash club in the world with 33 squash courts.
Multiple Medals for Canada at the Pan Am Junior Championships
Squash Canada is proud to share the results of our Pan Am Junior team who have just returned from Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Canadian players Ewan Harris (ON), Rio Schafer (BC), Christian Yuen (BC), Aleeza Khan (ON), Maddison Laine (AB), Leah McGillicuddy (ON), and Raya Singh (ON), as well as their coaches Richard Yendell and Giselle Delgado, flew over two days to reach Cochabamba and competed in difficult altitude – 2,558m (8,392 feet)! Team member Weihan Wang (BC) also made the journey but regrettably was unable to compete due to Covid protocols.
Josh Kay and Amal Izhar Awarded the 2022 Robert Brooks Scholarship
Squash Ontario is happy to announce the male and female recipients of the 2022 Robert Brooks Scholarship, Josh Kay and Amal Izhar. The Robert Brooks Squash Scholarship was established by the Braff family and friends to offer financial support to graduating Ontario secondary school students who have excelled in both school and squash.
Ontario's Hollie Naughton Captures Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games
As reported by Squash Canada, history has been made at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England as Canadian Hollie Naughton (Oakville, ON) has captured the silver medal in the women’s singles squash event. This is the first time a Canadian woman has medaled in squash at the Commonwealth Games.
