The 2023 WSF World Junior Championships are currently underway in Melbourne, Australia. The event will be held from July 18th to 29th and will consist of Men’s and Women’s Individual competition, as well as the World Junior Women’s Team Championships. The team will be led by coaches Tyler Osborne (ON) and Victoria Lust (BC).
The tournament has kicked things off with the individual draws and results can be found below. With 128 player monrad style draws, Team Canada athletes have already played multiple matches after the first three days. Daniel Deverill (Cambridge) went on a hot streak winning a few matches in a row to finish an impressive 36th place finish. Not far behind, Faazil Khan (Oakville) finished 42nd and Wasey Maqsood (Milton) placed 45th. After making it to third round of the main draw, Ottawa’s Iman Shaheen won two more matches before losing in the third round of the special plate. After two tough matches to start the tournament, Ananya Maheshwari (Windsor) won her first round match in the consolation plate.
The Women’s Team event is now underway with 14 different countries competing against each other. Canada is 7th seed and has completed their pool play against the top seeded Egypt (1) and Scotland (10), as well as their quarter finals match against second seeds Malaysia, results below.
