Team Ontario Wins Gold at the Canadian Masters Team Championships

As reported by Squash Canada, Team Ontario was crowned the 2023 Canadian Masters Teams Champions amidst a weekend of fun, friendship, and healthy competition in beautiful Charlottetown, PEI. A well-loved staple of the Canadian Championship circuit, returned after a two-year hiatus, the Championship was held at the Eastlink Centre from January 27-29 and served as the test event for the upcoming and highly anticipated Canada Winter Games.

The 2023 edition of the Masters Teams Championship presented by Vogue Optical included seven Provincial/Territorial teams from across the country descend on Canada’s smallest province of Prince Edward Island. Teams battled it out first in the pool stage to determine the team for the Championship and Consolation Rounds; and culminated on the final day with Team Ontario coming out on top. Ontario and Quebec were undefeated in the pool stage, while teams from Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and hosts PEI mixed it up during the round robin. Team Ontario went nearly undefeated all weekend losing only two matches in their team encounters.

“We are thrilled to have competed in this Masters event in PEI.  Kudos to the organizers and sponsors who made this happen.  Looking forward to next year!  We’ve already started working on our skit." – Kathy Cowper, Team Ontario Captain

“We want to thank all the participants for a fabulous weekend of squash and camaraderie,” said Seana Evans-Renaud, Co-Vice President of Squash PEI. “The competitors gave PEI an opportunity to witness some high level squash in the test event for the new Canada Games courts. Congratulations to Ontario on their gold-winning performance! A special thanks to Squash Canada, Squash PEI and the countless number of volunteers who made this event a success.”
