Team Greystone Wins the Rob Brooks Cup at the 2023 Community Squash Ontario Masters Championship

Team Greystone with the Rob Brooks Cup - awarded to the club who accumulated the most points based on where they finished in a draw. Missing from the photo are other top 5 finishers Nicole Garon, Joanna Buzek, Shannon Gemmel, and Kathy Cowper.

The Greystone Racquet Club served up a winning experience for our masters community as the host of the 2023 Community Squash Ontario Masters Championships. Tournament Chair Gary Waite, co-hosts and volunteers Ruth Ann McBride and Nicole Garon, and the entire staff at Greystone did an excellent job welcoming all 90 players from around the province to their home with excellent meals prepared by their in-house chef, live music, and friendly faces all weekend long. Special thanks to Tournament Referee Dave Fishburn and referees Wayne Smith, Sofia Navedeh, and Amir Shemirani for providing a smooth event experience on the refereeing side.

The Rob Brooks Cup is awarded to the club team with the best overall results. Established in 2016, this additional challenge was created to bring a team feel to this individual tournament. This year, Team Greystone was the lucky winner for a second year in a row and no - Gary Waite did not help add to the scores! As the weekend wrapped up, the Men’s 30+ final match played by KW Racquet Club’s Gabe Platt v. Toronto Racquet Club’s Brett Steckle was a battle to hold onto second place for both teams. With Brett’s win, both the KWRC and TRC finished with 15 points, leaving Greystone ahead at 21 points.

Congratulations to the Greystone team members who contributed to this win:

- Nicole Garon (30+ champion)
- Chad Gemmel (40+ runner up)
- Shannon Gemmel (30+ 3rd place)
- Kathy Cowper (55+ 3rd place)
- Joanna Buzek (50+ 4th place)
- Dave McBride (60+ 4th place)
- Colin Brown (30+ B/C 5th place)
- Howard Armitage (70+ 5th place)
