New Year, New Champions at the Hennessy & Hinchcliffe Ontario Mixed Doubles Championships

The 2023 Hennessy & Hinchcliffe Mixed Doubles Championships was the largest mixed championships we have record of with 126 players competing in 8 different divisions! Marci Sier, her tournament committee and the staff at the Badminton & Racquet Club went above and beyond to ensure a great time was had by all. A special thank you to our secondary venues Toronto Lawn Tennis Club and the RCYC for ensuring we could get through 90 hours of doubles matches in one weekend. This event wouldn’t be possible without our amazing title sponsor Hennessy & Hinchcliffe, as well as Torkin Manes, J.C.E. and Barometer Capital.

In the Open draw, teams battled it out for their share of $2000 prize money. Power couple Steph and James Hewitt were able to defend their title without dropping a game! Tournament chair Marci Sier and Jackson Kay were our finalists after defeating our third place finishers Seanna Keating and Cole Osborne in a tight 4-game match Saturday night.

The Open was not the only draw to showcase their excellent doubles skills. In our five age categories, many past champions returned with the hopes of another title. Squash Ontario was amazed to see the depth in our sold out B and C draws, with teams of all ages and many singles players giving doubles a whirl! It gives us great hope for the future of doubles in our province and we can’t wait to see everyone back next year.
