Momentum continues to build towards the historic running of the 2022 Canadian Squash Championships, held for the first time ever outdoors on the all-glass Power Court at the iconic Jack Poole Plaza overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Coastal Mountains and 2010 Olympic Cauldron in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. With almost 400 participants from across the country aged 8 to 82 competing for 32 National titles, the Canadian squash community will celebrate its first united Canadian Squash Championships since 2019.
Headlining the field that will compete on this iconic stage will be the Women’s and Men’s Open categories and will feature defending champions Danielle Letourneau (AB) and David Baillargeon (QC). In addition, World Ranked #17 Hollie Naughton (ON), 2-time champions Nick Sachvie (ON), Shawn Delierre (QC), Andrew Schnell (AB), as well as national team members Nikki Todd (SK) and home province favorite Nicole Bunyan (BC).
“I’m really looking forward to Canadian Nationals being in Vancouver! I spent a lot of time over there as a junior, so it will be such a nice opportunity to reconnect with old friends. This will be my last tournament of the season, so I’m hoping to finish on a strong note in Vancouver!” said Nicole Bunyan.
“I’m super excited for this year’s nationals as I’ll be going to defend my title for the first time,” says 2021 Men’s Open Champion David Baillargeon (QC). “Nationals has always been the biggest tournament of the year for me and to have the event in such an iconic venue, on a glass court and for the first time outdoors, I just can’t ask for a better place to compete for my 2nd national title!”
“It has been a long time since Nationals have been hosted in Vancouver and I think showcasing the glass court will create a lot of buzz around the tournament and hopefully attract more players” says Danielle Letourneau. “I am very excited to be a part of this event and to play some great squash!”.
In addition to the all-glass Power Court, the tournament will be proudly hosted at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club, Jericho Tennis Club, Vancouver Racquets Club, Evergreen Squash Club and the YWCA Fitness and Racquet Club.
To add to the celebration of squash, a vast array of other National titles will be up for grabs in the following categories: Men’s and Women’s U23, A, B, C, Masters Age categories and Junior categories.
