The first half of the Ontario squash season calendar wrapped up with the pinnacle event of the Mortgage Company of Canada Ontario Junior Closed Championships hosted at Mayfair Lakeshore in Toronto. Nearly 100 junior athletes competed in what is either their final event of the 2021 calendar year, or the first Championship event in a series as many Ontario juniors will be competing in the Canadian Junior Open and the U.S. Junior Open in the next couple weeks.
A huge thank you goes out to Mayfair Lakeshore and Tournament Chair Manu Dutt. Host facilities are certainly taking on risk bringing in a number of non-members to host our events in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Without the clubs taking on this risk, our tournaments may not have a host venue. Thank you to the Mayfair team for being an integral part of running this Championship event.
Many thanks to our experienced Tournament Referee Steve Flude. Steve was a big help in organizing all of the red shirted referees for this weekend’s event, ensuring that first matches in the morning, main draw semi-finals and finals, and any particularly tough matches are refereed by qualified officials. We trust players and parents agree that this is a vital component to hosting these junior high level events.
Last but not least, to our title sponsor and junior squash supporter, Faheem Tejani and the Mortgage Company of Canada. Thank you for your generosity to support this event! Without event sponsors, tournament budgets would not have room to deliver extra value such a tournament souvenirs, better prizing, referees, and generally the look and feel of a Championship event. Thank you so much to the Tejani Family for supporting Squash Ontario’s junior squash program for the past 3 years!
Now onto our podium finishers!
