The Robert Brooks Scholarship Fund Board of Governors are pleased to announce the 2018 recipients of it's annual bursary to support students who have excelled in both academics and squash. This year's two incredible students receiving bursaries are Catherine Giachino and Elliott Hunt

Squash Ontario juniors have a long tradition of excelling both on and off the court and we are very proud of all of our graduating juniors that have gone on to represent the province at the highest levels of collegiate squash both domestically and abroad. Good luck to everyone pursuing post-secondary education in September!

About Catherine

Catherine has been playing squash since she was six years old living in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Catherine is an active member of the Ottawa squash community, representing the region in many provincial events and coaching at several different clubs. She has demonstrated her love for the sport by jumping right back into the game post back surgery and competing in many Ontario Gold and Championship events after her recovery. We wish Catherine the best as she begins her first year at Western University and plays for the Western Mustangs!

About Elliott

Elliott has remained a competitive force in one of the deepest and most talented pools of junior boys the province has seen in a while. He certainly didn't go unnoticed as he finished in 3rd place while seeded 5/8 at the 2018 Canadian Junior Championships and took home both the Ontario and Canadian sportsmanship awards.  Elliott will join Catherine and several other Ontario players at Western University this fall and we look forward to seeing him play on the Jesters University League and OUA circuits!

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Robert Brooks Bursary has been established by the Braff Family and Friends to offer financial support to Ontario grade 12 students who have excelled in both school and squash. The successful recipients of the Scholarship will be individuals (one male and one female) who have continually shown passion and sportsmanship, both on and off the court, and who are entering higher education (college or university). Successful recipients will have demonstrated a long time commitment to the programming of Squash Ontario. This bursary provides at least $850.00 to each recipient who will have been accepted for continuing education in an accredited college or university.
