Are you interested in making an impact on the squash coaching community? Coach Developers are directly responsible for the development of coaches and need to be experts in learning as well as experts in coaching. They include: Learning Facilitators (facilitate coach courses), Coach Evaluators (facilitate coach evaluations), and Master Coach Developers (train the coach developers).

The Course

Squash Ontario is offering the Core Training for Learning Facilitators virtually on March 8th for qualified coaches. A maximum of 12 participants are welcome to join the course, and Squash Ontario will cover the fees to join in an effort to build Learning Facilitator capacity in the province.

Once a Learning Facilitator has reached the “trained” status, they will be able to deliver the Squash Canada Community Instructor Course (coming soon), the Intermediate Instructor Course, or the Provincial Coach Course, depending on which stream/course they decide to pursue for Content-Specific Training and Co-Delivery.

The Pathway

The NCCP now has a simple and universal 4-step process for becoming a Coach Developer (separate pathway for each type of Coach Developer):

Step 1: Core Training - Core Training for Coach Developers is a 6 hour course and offered on March 8th, from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Step 2: Content-Specific Training - Spend between 1-2 hours with Master Coach Developer Barb Cooper prior to your co-delivery of a coaching course or co-facilitation of an evaluation.

Step 3: Co-Delivery - Co-deliver a course/evaluation with a certified Learning Facilitator or Coach Evaluator. After the Co-Delivery you will receive ‘trained’ status and will be able to deliver these courses on your own and after practice, will then be evaluated.

Step 4: Evaluation - Facilitate a coaching course or evaluation.

Deadline to register: March 4, 2021

Please note: Coach Developers must be 16 or older to access NCCP multi-sport training in Ontario.*

CIBI has come on board to support the Squash Ontario Coaching Program.  Thanks to a preexisting partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), CIBI has formed an exclusive National Insurance Program for Coaches across Canada that many in our squash community have already taken advantage of.  CIBI has taken their support a step further by sponsoring Squash Ontario’s Coaching Program which will help subsidize the cost of training and certification programs, allowing us to build coaching capacity across Ontario. Strategic initiatives set for 2020-2025 will see a focused effort to increase the number of athletes playing this great sport, along with ambitious targets to grow coaching, officiating, and member clubs. CIBI will be a key contributor to Squash Ontario’s success as we move past this difficult year.
