140 players joined us for the largest provincial doubles championship event in recent history, thanks to the combined Mixed doubles and Men’s and Women’s doubles events. With 50 players competing in two divisions, we buckled up for an adventure of a weekend. 134 matches were played across four venues, with thanks to the Toronto Cricket Club, Richmond Hill Squash Club, and Mayfair Lakeshore for stepping in to support with court space.
We give thanks to Cory McCartney and the staff at Mayfair Parkway for embracing the Ontario doubles community, providing elevated value, and staying on top of schedule conflicts all weekend long. To Mark Warren, the Tournament Referee, and his team of volunteer referees for seamlessly managing different venues and additional divisions for finals.
Three organizations financially supported this event, enabling prize money, quality prizing and souvenirs, and additional food and beverages from the main venue. The title sponsor, Mortgage Company of Canada Inc., supported our doubles event for the first time, while being a long-time supporter of the singles game. Brand new sponsor CM Concrete joined us over the weekend playing in both events. Finally, the City of Markham supported this event thanks to the tourism benefits that larger scale events bring to area.
Finally, to the players who joined us for the weekend, thank you for jumping in with both feet. The energy was better than ever, and everyone was patient as we worked through rescheduling matches as the draws unfolded.
We look forward to building on the success of this event next year and best of luck playing and competing in the remainder doubles events of the season.
Yours in squash,
Lynsey Yates, Executive Director
