Taking place from October 27 to 31, 2024, the Canadian Women’s Open will be held at one of the world’s most iconic squash venues, Brookfield Place in Toronto, on the all-glass Power Court presented by the Syra Group. This is the largest professional squash tournament in Canadian history, featuring a PSA Silver (85k USD) event. The women’s draw includes 8 of the top 20 female athletes in the world, headlined by Belgian stars Nele Gilis (World Ranked #5) and Tinne Gilis (WR #6), defending champion Amanda Sobhy from the USA (WR #10), and Canadian #1 Hollie Naughton (WR #19).
A new addition to the event is the Cambridge Group of Clubs Men’s Copper Classic (25k USD), which will feature top-ranked players such as Baptiste Masotti (WR #19) and Grégoire Marche (WR #25) from France, Leonel Cárdenas (WR #21) from Mexico, and Canadian #1 David Baillargeon (WR #42).
Canada and Ontario will be well-represented in both draws, with senior national squad members Nicole Bunyan (BC), Salah Eltorgman (ON), Connor Turk (MB), Liam Marrison (ON), Brett Schille (AB), Nikki Todd (SK), and Niki Shemirani (ON) all qualifying for the event. Matches will be played on the Power Court in the stunning Allen Lambert Galleria at Brookfield Place, with preliminary rounds taking place at satellite venues including the Badminton and Racquet Club, The Cambridge Club, and Toronto Athletic Club.
This week also marks Squash Canada’s official Olympic Launch, as the sport is formally welcomed into the Canadian Olympic Committee family in preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. “The next four years will be a transformative era for our sport,” said Squash Canada CEO Jamie Nicholls. “We’re excited to showcase squash as a healthy, dynamic, diverse, and now Olympic sport, and look forward to welcoming the world’s top athletes to Toronto to celebrate this momentous occasion.”
Squash Canada extends its thanks to the Canadian Women’s Open Platinum Sponsors, including Altas Partners, Brookfield Properties, Kingsett Capital, The Government of Canada, Oxford Properties, Scotiabank, Slaight Music, and our many gold, silver, and bronze partners for their continued support of the sport.
