Registered members can now enroll in the following Ministry-accredited online interdisciplinary courses at a discounted price of $350 for the 2023-2024 academic year. This unique approach by Blyth Academy Online aims to cater to the specific needs of Canadian student athletes who wish to deepen academic opportunities while balancing their training schedule. These courses are fully accredited and count towards the OSSD; however, please note that students can only earn one IDC credit in grade 11 and one in grade 12.
1. ATHLETICS - GRADE 11: This course equips students with the skills to make connections among diverse subjects and disciplines. By studying the past, present, and future of athletics, students gain a comprehensive understanding of research, inquiry, physiology, history, training strategies, and careers. The course is designed to be highly applicable to students' current lives as athletes, incorporating assignments and projects that encourage the practical application of information in a personal and relevant context.
2. SPORTS ANALYTICS AND MANAGEMENT - GRADE 12: In this course, students learn the fundamentals of data analytics and its application in professional hockey. Through a collaboration with ICEBERG Sports, students gain hands-on experience with industry tools used in sports analytics around the world, including the NHL. The course covers topics such as physical activity in sport, athlete development, scouting, and sports management. By combining skills and knowledge from different subjects and disciplines, students develop problem-solving abilities, decision-making skills, and the capacity to present findings beyond the boundaries of a single subject or discipline. Students engage in individual and collaborative research, analyze connections among diverse subjects, enhance information literacy skills, and explore various resources and perspectives on sports analytics and management. Although the course focuses on hockey, the learning opportunities extend to a wide range of sports.
3. THE ELITE ATHLETE - GRADE 12: Designed for students who intend to pursue their athletic goals after secondary school, this course explores topics such as managing social media, sports journalism and strategic athletic marketing, ethics for elite athletes, leadership, building and maintaining financial security, and time management. The Elite Athlete allows students to apply their interests in these areas to the unique context of elite athletes.
Blyth Academy is recognized as a leader in providing academic training to domestic and international elite athletes in North America. The institution currently serves as the education partner for various Ontario Hockey League (OHL) teams, including the Ottawa 67s and Flint Firebirds, as well as the farm team schools for MLS's Toronto FC and La Liga's Barcelona FC.
