All eyes are on Windsor this week for the 2023 Windsor Cup Squash Series as it plays an integral role in helping to inform the selection of athletes for the upcoming 2023 Pan American Games and 2023 World Squash Federation (WSF) Men’s World Team Championship. Canadian Senior and NextGen Squad athletes are getting the 2023-24 season started, taking part in one of three concurrent PSA World Tour and Challenger competitions that will serve to showcase their summer training with the goal of representing Canada in two upcoming international events.
The Windsor Cup and Windsor City Opens, run from August 15-19 at the Devonshire Mall and Windsor Squash and Fitness Club and will feature over 20 Canadian athletes in their respective draws. Utilizing the all-glass Power Court presented by Syra Group, this Series is bound to produce some exciting squash and will showcase our sport at every angle.
More on the international events that the athletes are being considered for selection to Team Canada:
The 2023 Pan Am Games will be held in Santiago, Chile from October 20th to November 5th. A Week Two sport, squash has seven medal events including singles, doubles, and team events for each gender, and a mixed doubles event. Squash Canada will be sending six athletes, three male and three female, to compete. Team selection will be announced August 30th at 10am.
The 2023 WSF Men’s World Team Championship will descend on New Zealand this December from the 11th-17th. This tournament happens biennially and sees four-man squads from national federations battle it out for the title of World Squash Champions. The Windsor Cup Squash Series will help determine the selection for Team Canada to represent at the WSF Men’s World Team Championship.
