260 Athletes Vying for Podium this Provincial Championships Weekend

A number of factors have led to our April 1st jam packed weekend with three provincial championship events taking place, making it the pinnacle of Squash Ontario’s 2021-2022 season. 260 athletes will lace up across Ontario vying for a podium finish in either the Assante Wealth Management Ontario Junior Open, Weir Team Ontario Men’s Veteran Doubles, or the Hennessy & Hinchcliffe Ontario Women’s Doubles.

2022 Assante Wealth Management Ontario Junior Open

The Club at White Oaks is set to host the Ontario Junior Open in Niagara with Matt Easingwood and Cindy Sachvie at the helm as Tournament Chairs and Darrin Manley acting as Tournament Referee. Over 100 of the province’s top juniors will compete for the coveted Ontario Junior Open titles, with several players from around Canada filling in the draws to secure their spot on the national team. If that wasn’t enough excitement, the Club is also hosting the a Challenger Tour PSA event featuring several Canadians in action on home soil, along with players from the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Mexico and Pakistan travelling to the area for the four-day event.

The Weir Team Ontario Men’s Veteran Doubles Championships

With 45 teams, the 2022 comeback event for the Men’s Doubles is officially the largest in franchise history thanks to the Toronto Racquet Club team of Blair Finlayson, Luke McGoey, and Scott Arnold, coupled with the event’s built up social reputation and dreamy sponsored food and beverage package, making this the can’t-miss-event of the season for men’s doubles. Satellite clubs around Toronto will see doubles action including the Badminton & Racquet Club, the Toronto Lawn & Tennis Club, and the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. As always, it feels like the entire city contributes to this special event!

Hennessy & Hinchcliffe Ontario Women’s Veteran Doubles Championships

Guided by the ultimate doubles vet Lolly Gillen, the Women’s Vets Doubles with 24 teams is growing each year with 2022 being the biggest yet! The event kicked off Thursday at the Toronto Cricket Club where our women’s doubles community has taken over the courts and will enjoy a Friday evening social along with a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” yet competitive atmosphere throughout the weekend.
