Squash Ontario is pleased to share a mid-season update of the Jesters University League with you all. Just when it looked like the university league wouldn’t be possible with the new school protocols our teams would have to follow this year, our amazing coaches, sponsors, and committee came together to make it work!
With many schools unable to travel over night or host more than one home match per day, there was no doubt our regular format would have to temporarily change. With continued funding from our sponsors, the Jesters of Ontario, Squash Ontario worked with coaches to create plan that would allow for as many match ups as possible.
Eleven schools committed to participating in the 2021-2022 Jesters League, and will compete in three one-day sectionals leading up to the Championship weekend, which will be from February 11-13 at The Club at White Oaks in Niagara. Schools were placed in pools to limit the amount of players in the facility and to keep travel to a minimum. Each team plays two quality matches at the sectional, for a total of 6 Jesters League matches throughout the season.
Sectional #1 took place November 13th and Sectional #2 November 27th at various locations across the province. Heading into the final sectional, which will take place at the end of January, the men's division is being led by Western, University of Toronto and University of Waterloo with perfect 4-0 records. On the women's side, Queen's is currently undefeated at 3-0, with Western, University of Toronto and McMaster all tied with 3-1 records.
