One of the most successful junior cohorts in recent Squash Ontario history added another feather to their caps this past weekend as the Canadian Women’s Junior National Team will be made up off entirely Ontario athletes. Congratulations to Charlotte Orcutt and Brianna Jefferson who were selected to the team earlier in the month based on two seasons worth of results and Erica McGillicuddy and Molly Chadwick who clinched their spots at trials this past weekend at the Toronto Cricket Club.
These young athletes will wear the maple leaf both in late June in Toronto at the Junior Pan-Am Championships as well as Malaysia in July for the World Junior Championships. The team represents over a dozen U19 and U17 females that are all playing at an international level and are leading a resurgence in Ontario squash on the world stage. Orcutt, Jefferson and McGillicuddy will head to Harvard, Yale and Columbia, respectively, next Fall as freshman, while Chadwick, who is only 15, will continue her exemplary junior career.
The girls join senior national athletes Nick Sachvie, Sam Cornett and Hollie Naughton who were just named to the Pan-Am Games team in Peru as Team Canada athletes for what will be an exciting summer of high performance squash.
Please join Squash Ontario in congratulating a very special group of athletes in achieving this goal and representing the province and country with pride.
