2019 Toronto Centre for Medical Imaging Ontario Closed Championships

The 2019 Toronto Centre for Medical Imaging Ontario Closed Championships is one of Squash Ontario’s largest events of the year and this past weekend was no different, with record attendance thanks to the largest women’s division numbers we’ve ever seen! Mayfair Lakeshore welcomed over 150 participants throughout the weekend highlighted by the top athletes in the country battling for $5,000 in prize money.

In the Women's Open, Sam Cornett claimed her 4th Ontario Closed Championship over finalist Nikki Todd (2-time champion) who fought off a barrage of top juniors and recent A winners on her way to the finals. Top juniors Molly Chadwick and Iman Shaheen played off for 3rd place, secured by Molly in 3 games.

In the Men's Division, Cameron Seth secured his first Ontario Closed Championship after several attempts in the finals over Fernando Magdeleno from Mexico (and new Cedar Springs Head Pro). Maaz Mufti fended off Blake Reinson for 3rd place in 4 games.

Congratulations to all division winners: Calvin Ho (Men's A), Maddie Martin (Women's A), Brian Reid (Men's B), Andrea Kiss (Women's B), Naeem Khan (Men's C), Caryn Rankine (Women’s C), Matthew Young (Men’s D), and Pamela Mayhew (Women’s D).

A special thanks goes out to the Toronto Centre for Medical Imaging and the Ismail family for their support of our hard working squash athletes through event sponsorship. In addition, Dave Howard, Tournament Referee, and his team of officials this weekend provided a smooth and enjoyable event for all participants. See below for full results and photos.
