Canada Winter Games squad member & Parent/Guardian Contract
Congratulations on being named to the Team Ontario Squad for the upcoming 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. The Games will take place from February 18 – March 5, with Squash being played during one of those two weeks. We are confident that we will have enough events and head-to-heads prior to December 1st, 2022 to name the team. With no set event schedule due to COVID-19, Squash Ontario has the right to review the criteria after year one and make any necessary changes.
All players will need to read and sign the following document acknowledging that you understand and agree to the selection criteria below. Once completed, you will officially become a squad member and will be invited to our Fall/Winter 2021 Squad Camp run by Robin and Marci, as well as any additional training set up by the coaches. If you wish to decline this invitation to join the squad, please let Lauren Sachvie know and we will invite the next highest ranked player in your division.
What is Canada Winter Games? 2023 CWG will be hosted by Prince Edward Island. From February 18 to March 5, the Games will bring together 3,600 athletes, managers and coaches, across 20 different sports, for the largest multi-sport event in the country. Squash players will compete in a 4-player team event (boys and girls divisions) against other Province/Territories, with two boys and two girls also competing in the individual draw.
Squad Selection Criteria: The Junior Committee, our newly appointed CWG coaches, Robin Clarke and Marci Sier, and myself have published our eligibility and criteria on the Squash Ontario website. This 32-person squad was selected based off our current Club Locker ratings with the top 8 ranked in the divisions mentioned below as of April 15th, 2021. Since we have not had tournament results in some time, we have made the squad much larger than in past years. Please note that players who are not initially named to the squad are still eligible to make the final team if they meet all event and ranking requirements.
Team Selection Criteria: The Team Ontario squad will be named before the start of the 2021 season based off rankings. Players who are not initially named to the squad are still eligible to make the selected team if they meet all requirements. The final 8-person Team will be selected based off of December 1st, 2022 rankings.
The team that will represent Ontario will be the top 2 ranked Boys and Girls in the U19 and U17 categories as of December 1st, 2022, whom are still in those age categories by March 6th, 2023.
Potential team members must participate in the 2022 Ontario Junior Open, 2022 Gold # 1, 2022 Gold # 2 and the 2022 Ontario Junior Closed Championships and attend training camps set up by Squash Ontario.
If an athlete is attending a post-secondary institution as a full-time student in the Fall of 2022, they may request an exemption of participating in Gold #1 and Gold #2 but MUST participate in the 2022 Ontario Junior Closed.
The Squash Ontario Junior Committee and Provincial coaches reserve the right to request a trial if rankings are considered insufficient in delta and there are insufficient head-to-head results.
In the case of injury or illness for not attending a required selection event, a medical certificate will be required. Squash Ontario must be notified of the injury immediately. The medical certificate must include, but not be limited to, the date of injury, diagnosis, treatment plan, and expected date to return to training/competition.
