Peru wants Toronto to Postpone 2015 Pan Am Bid

The Embassy magazine reports Peruvian Ambassador Jorge Juan Castaneda Mendez sent a letter July 23 to Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon, Minister of State for Sport Gary Lunn, and Michael Chambers, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee and a Toronto 2015 bid board member, asking the city to postpone its bid for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

2. Ontario Offers Support for 2011 Pan Am Games

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty today issued the following statement:

"Last Friday I traveled to Mexico City at the invitation of President Mario Vázquez Raña of the Pan American Sports Organization to discuss Toronto's bid for the 2015 PanAm Games. I impressed upon the president that Ontario is fully committed to hosting a successful Games in 2015.

3. Toronto 2015 - PAN AM GAMES EVALUATION TEAM IN TORONTO AUGUST 30, 31

Visit will build decision-makers’ confidence

TORONTO, ON, July 31, 2009 – The Pan American Sports Organization’s (PASO) five-member Evaluation Commission will be in Toronto August 30 and 31 to meet with the Toronto 2015 Bid team and visit proposed Games venues and facilities.

The squad is comprised of 12 young athletes - 6 boys and 6 girls. Next year at this time, Squash Ontario will be selecting the Canada Games Team of 8 athletes - 4 boys and 4 girls to represent Ontario at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
